| “Your wealth is where your friends are.” - Plautus. Ever notice how some people wonder why they are not successful even though they never call someone, go out, or meet people. It’s like they think that because of who they are or their product that they are marketing is going to make them incredibly wealthy. “Here I am, give me your money.” Did you know that Colonel Sanders was 65 years old when he started traveling throughout the southern U.S. with his now famous chicken recipe? He went to over 1,000 restaurants before he found one that would say ‘yes’ to his chicken. Most people tend to quit after the first 5 to 10 people who say ‘no’ to them. Colonel Sanders refused to stop just because some people couldn’t see the opportunity presented to them. If your dream is not big enough you will give up when people do not quickly jump on board your opportunity. One of the things we tend to forget is the people that we come in contact with people everyday. Usually we are so busy going some place or running an errand that we no longer are aware of the people around us. Yet we all come into contact with people everyday that if you just took the time to develop some type of relationship we might find that they are looking for the very product you are marketing. If we are going to meet other people and develop a relationship it means that most of us will have to get out of our comfort zone. One of the great ways to prepare your self for meeting others is to determine to make a difference as a result. It may be just a word of encouragement, a smile, an expression of thanks. Every one you meet should feel better about themselves when you leave them. Ever been standing in the check out line and every one ahead of you has made some negative remark to the clerk? Why is it taking so long to get checked out? Why don’t they have more cashiers when it is so busy? Let’s face it, it is not the fault of the cashier. If she could she would have more cashiers working. But it is not her company. So, now it’s your turn at the cash register. What do you do? Do you continue the criticism? Or, do you try to give her an encouragement? I like to see if I can get her to smile before I leave. Every one should feel better after you have talked to them. That is a habit we are all in need to developing. If you develop this habit when you are face-to-face with people that attitude will carry through the phone lines when you talking to a prospect. If they don’t think you care about them you will not have a sale. We must be interested in people. We must be interested in helping people find the solution to their problems and fulfill their needs.
