| Suddenly, the room disappeared and we found ourselves at the top of a very high mountain. I looked around and saw the ocean in the distance. The waters were a gentle shade of bluish green. “Yes, John,” said God, “you may call this a mountaintop experience. You don’t have to come up to the mountain to see me. You climb mountains to find you. Stay close to me and your difficulties cease to be of mountainous proportions.” I knew He was trying to teach me something very important, but I was not quite sure what it was. It didn’t matter, however, because I so enjoyed being with Him or Her. There is a peace beyond description whenever one is with God. There’s a bliss that surpasses all imagination when you’re in the presence of the Almighty. Perhaps, this was what the Psalmist meant when he said, “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the Shadow of the Almighty.” We stood there for a long while enjoying the wind, the sun, the panoramic view. No one uttered a sound. A cloud or two passed by, and high atop this mountain could be heard the songs of little birds as they flitted among the branches of evergreen trees. God stood next to me and I glanced at Him from the corner of my eye. His hair appeared blonde, but a closer look revealed it to be somewhat darker. He wore a sweatshirt and blue jeans that were faded in spots. I looked again at His hair and this time it appeared gray. It was the strangest thing, His hair changing color like that. “If it bothers you, John, I’ll let it remain one color,” God offered solicitously. “It’s not the hair,” I said. “I was just thinking how peaceful it is to be with You, how the experience of being in Your Presence is so blissful.” To read the rest of the story visit http://www.spiritual-simplicity.com |
