| “What?” she interrupted, “do you have anything against a long-time friend meeting you at the airport? Gideon told you I’d be here, didn’t he? Sorry I hijacked your suitcase for a while. Couldn’t resist the prank. You always look so amusing and childlike when you’re puzzled.” “Like an amusing child, eh? Just how I want to appear. And yes, now that I think of it, Gideon did mention that I’d be seeing you again soon, but I didn’t think it would be this soon and here. What’s this? You two working part- time for the airlines now?” “No” she replied,“we’re still with the old company — G & M Enterprises. But let’s not stand here, let’s go have something to eat. I’m sure you know a place that serves that greasy stuff you like.” Knowing her, I didn’t even bother asking how she knew what I had intended. During the years I’ve known her and Gideon, they always seemed to have this uncanny ability to guess with great accuracy, what I wanted to do. I followed her through Customs as she pulled my wheeled suitcase. I offered to carry my own luggage but she laughed and said, “I’m the baggage handler today. Relax, you’ve had a long flight.” “I need to flag a cab,” I said as we walked up to the curb. “Not to worry, John. I’ll see that you get home after dinner. Here’s our limo now.” The driver got out, took my suitcase and hand luggage and placed them securely in the trunk while Marla and I slid into the back seat. A short while later, we were deposited at my favorite little café and settled ourselves in for dinner. I was looking forward to talking with her again. After placing our orders, I leaned back in my chair and looked straight at Marla.“You haven’t aged a day since I last saw you years ago,” I said. “As a matter of fact, you look even younger.” To read the rest of the story visit http://www.spiritual-simplicity.com |
