| A few minutes later as we pulled up to the gate I turned, half hoping to see Gideon again. But he wasn’t there. Deplaning and passing through Immigration and Customs are relatively simple matters, especially if you don’t have too much luggage. I only had one suitcase and a carry-on, so I hurried to the carousel to claim the suitcase. On some flights and at certain airports,reclaiming your luggage can take almost as long as the flight itself. Unfortunately, this seemed to be one such occasion. Most of my fellow passengers had already recovered their belongings and left, while I was one of the last ones remaining.Patience is a virtue I’ve been pursuing all my life. While I’m considerably better at it now than in my youth, it still requires tremendous determination and effort on my part. Finally, after about twenty minutes of grumbling under my breath, I marched toward the luggage counter to inquire. Focusing on the frustration of the moment,I hadn’t glanced around as I pondered how much better I could run airlines, specifically, baggage claim departments. A voice from behind a huge support column startled me. “John! John!” it exclaimed, “are you looking for your luggage?” I snapped around to see who had called my name. Not thirty feet away, next to my suitcase, stood one of the most beautiful baggage handlers I had ever seen. From under the official “Red Cap” her long, golden hair fell in streams of sunshine over her shoulders. A glowing smile decorated her face and her blue-green eyes were dancing mischief as, haltingly, I approached. “For goodness sakes, John!” her voiced fairly rang with delight, “you really don’t recognize me!” and she threw her arms around my shoulders as she gave me the most delightful hug I’d received in a long time. And then I knew. How could I not have recognized her sooner? “Marla!” I fairly shouted,“it’s you!I didn’t notice you at all. You’re so ... so beautiful.
